i have a 1974 chevy truck c-10 4x4 it has a noise in the rear i was told it needs bearings how much trouble is it to put bearings in and do i need any special tools.
If it’s axle bearings (at the brake drum end of the axles), it’s not too hard, four bolts and then get a shop to press off the old one and press on the new one, if necessary. A manual would be good for this if you haven’t done it. If it’s a bearing in the center differential, that is harder, potentially much harder, I haven’t done that because of the tools required. If the bearing has come apart and damaged the ring and pinion, I’d swap out the axle for a used one.
Wheel bearing, pinion bearing or carrier bearing??
