Rav 4 2015 gas pedal squeaks especially after rain

Hi, gas pedal of my Toyota RAV4 2015 with 70k squeaks especially after rain. It goes away after driving some distance. Now the breaks also started to make noise especially in the morning or after rain. I recently changed my rear breaks and front are due soon. Are these problems related or separate and what could be the issue. Help is much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum…

Does your Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (“gas pedal”) make noise with the engine off as well as on??

And no the 2 pedals don’t share anything other than being bolted to the same vehicle, so one should not affect the other (noise wise), unless you have somehow gotten a foreign substance on both at the same time…

The pic below is what your Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (gas pedal) looks like…

Thanks for your response Dave! I haven’t tried with engine off. I’ll do that. And what could cause break noise, lack of oil?

Please don’t put oil on your brakes, or in the master cylinder if you enjoy being able to stop your vehicle…

1st you need to determine where the brake noise is coming from, front brakes, rear brakes or is the brake pedal making the noise or??? Then properly inspect the brakes to see what is wrong and then repair as required…

And sorry, but after asking if you need to oil your brakes I would strongly suggest/advise you take your vehicle to a pro repair shop to be properly checked out…

If you mess your brakes up they might not work when needed, and when needed is when you really want them working… In other words, if your brakes fail to stop you, then something else will!!!

Does your rav4 have rear discs or drum brakes?
Did you pay a shop to do brakes?

Looks like it is 4 wheel disc with park brake shoes in the rotor hat…

Thanks everyone for the response!

I mean oiling the break disc. Here are the pictures of rear and front driver and passenger side. I changed rear recently and the front are due soon. I don’t know if it is discs or drum breaks but here are some pictures. I paid a shop to do the rear breaks. He said front will be due in 10-15k km. It’s 6k miles (~10k km) since then.

I couldn’t reproduce the gas pedal noise while engine was off.

Think for a moment about what you wrote. Brakes stop your car because of friction. Oil, or any other type of lubricant, will reduce–or eliminate–friction.

DO NOT put any type of lubricant on the brake discs!

Thank you for that. I will not.

From looking at the picture of the front brakes I would say, have the front brakes changed and replace the rotors too.

Then you are probably not hearing your “gas pedal” squeaking, what you are most likely hearing is the serpentine belt (fan belt) making noise (under the hood) upon start up and it does it worse when raining…

It sounds like you are having a shop do your work for you and that is probably a good/great thing, so have them check the condition of your serp belt and belt tensioner… Don’t go cheap on the serp belt as they tend to squeak also…

And I agree, get your front brake pads and rotors replaced soon…

The squeaking sound comes only when I’m driving and has my foot in the gas pedal. I observed it on highways, in city and after rain.

The photos above appear to show the rotors (brake discs) are in need of replacement. Do you see how the very outer portion has a wide ridge? Post 11 for example. That means the wearing part of the rotor has worn away, leaving the ridge. I can’t tell for certain by the photos, but it looks like it has worn well beyond the wear limit. The discs have to be a certain minimum thickness (in the wear area) to work correctly. Suggest to hire a shop to to focus on getting the brake problems resolved as the first priority.

Some cars have a freewheel clutch on the alternator that can slip and get noisy.

The brake rotor shown in post #11 has recently been replaced, the crosshatch pattern on the rotor are factory machine marks. The outer edge is discolored because the brake pads don’t contact that part of the rotor.

The rear brake rotors do not need to be replaced.

Very true and I do believe OP’s does as well…

The older (now) Ford Camshaft Synchronizer’s squeaking really taught me (had already been doing it for years, but got bit on not double checking one) to remove the belt and start the engine to see if the noise has gone away or not… And the older 2.4L Altima’s cause they would/could make it sound like a rod knock… lol
Also had a few cam sync’s sound like a torque converter front pump bushing squeaking… ugg
