Problem with parking brake in 2003 Saturn VUE

I have a 2003 Saturn VUE 4cyl. that has been parked in our driveway for about 6 days. We went to pull out and the brake had locked the rear wheels. The brake lever inside moved smoothly and the brake indicator light went out also. Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?

The parking brake is rusted in place. This happens occasionally. Release it as you normally do and drive the car. The parking brake will “pop” loose if you apply enough pressure to move the car.

I did apply enough pressure to move the vehicle. The rear wheels didn’t roll, and left short drag marks in the driveway. I have to pull out of the driveway in reverse. If I do this is there a chance that I will damage the suspension, brakes, or any part of the wheel “assembly”?

No, it won’t hurt anything. Usually the brake lets go before the tires slide. You could try getting a person or two to sit in the rear to increase traction at that end. It might help.
