I’m not sure. I am a volunteer moderator for Nextdoor, but that involves just a purely-local group with fairly light activity. I’m not sure that too many people would be willing to work overnight for no pay, but I could be wrong.
In any event, it has now been 5 hours since the last post appeared, so I’m not sure that they have fully sorted-out their new procedures.
I think the regular members who have been here for years should have their post or replies go through right away. and new people posting questions should be vetted. just a thought
BTW the mod/admin list shows last one online was 9 hours ago, the other was Friday early afternoon, and then lastly 2 days ago… I know this is a volunteer staff, with lives away from here but if no one is home, the lights need to be off…
And why do we show 10 staff members that most of which have not been logged in, in 5 or more years???
Remember, most DIYers do their DIYer stuff on weekends when off from work… IMHO
Based on what I found and posted above, it could be resolved without any coding, just an administrative setting. For whatever reason, this choice was made and no one is either knowledgeable enough, empowered to change it or just apathetic to the situation to attempt to resolve it. Since someone was able to institute this administrative change, they obviously know that such settings exist. That leaves the latter two scenarios or possibilities within the 4th quadrant- “things that we don’t know that we don’t know”
This hasn’t been confirmed because I was wondering the same, but I suspect one aspect potentially driving this change has to do with the single sign on system with the main cartalk dot com site and this portion. not everyone who logs on over there comes over here.
Can you believe a person like me with my kind of demeanor and personality constantly gets banned on Reddit platform. ?
Yesterday, a Reddit moderator informed me that I’m permanently banned because they suspected I’m not happy
I don’t know why they came to their conclusion about my mood state, but not even their community guidelines say anything about unhappy members.
I simply answered a question asking about how to earn karma and I answered that the best way to do so is by leaving comments that the audience wants to hear so they may upvote, and to never share their honest opinion as doing so might be perceived as upsetting if such opinion isn’t trending.
“ Good afternoon, Clueless, you have been banned permanently from our subreddit for breaking the rules. If you are unhappy about how things work here, there are many other subreddits you can participate in and offer your cynical advice.”
Banning members should be reserved for repeatedly breaking community guidelines with no regard to changing one’s approach to the platform. Moderators should not ban members for sharing their opinion in a non-offensive manner under any circumstances. And as for me not receiving constructive guidelines and assistance from this community very well ( by the way, I don’t feel guilty I’m guilty of this accusation), such should not be warranted for a ban.
The moderators on this platform are very mature and reasonable in their judgement and moderating, hence why I am around for about 10 years with zero problem with them.
Actually, I though Clueless is a “Help-Rejecting Complainer” (HRC). This describes someone who is consistently unhappy and often seeks assistance but then dismisses or negates any advice or support offered.
And I think Clueless has a “Victim Mentality” where his persistent mindset involves blaming others or outside factors for problems and setbacks. (It was not his fault he did not see the school bus, it was blocked by a truck…). And he seems to feel powerless and helpless to change his circumstances. He’s handicapped and he can’t understand how his “Passive Aggressive” driving, forcing other to compensate for his driving and forcing others to change lanes to get around him… And then he is “Seeking Validation” from the members of CarTalk for his “victimitious” (made up word to identify the Victim Mentality disease…")
Must be another Clueless member you are referring to. Did you check if the full screen name had the number 33 in it?
I drive mainly in the right lane of a road, leaving the left lane for those wanting to speed and overtake. I’m always 7 to 10mph over the posted speed limit.
I remember you very well, Thunder. You are the same one who mistook me for another forum member on here in recent past. So I do sympathize.
Respectfully, the notes from Discourse that you posted are very general and do not take into account the type of AI bot attacked we are experiencing. The bots are able to sign up with a trust level they should not be able to have. As technology gets more advanced, so do the bots.
No, I was not mistaken with the User ID (Clueless33), I just know you to be clueless when it comes to School Busses, Tinted Windows, Vehicle Inspections, Railroad Lights, Speed Limits, Car Wax, Duel Side mirrors, and so much more…
Many of your questions seem like you pull them out of the air, more like rhetorical questions just to exercise your fingers. Like, “What are dual side mirrors?”
Your postings are reminiscent of comedian George Carlin’s album, “The Class Clown” especially when he played “Stump the Priest…” and he asks the Father Russel, “If God is all powerful can he make a rock so big that he himself can’t lift it?”
You clearly did as I quoted you above. It wasn’t me who you were attacking some months ago about driving too slow so other drivers had to switch up lanes to go around. That was Chris you were having such discussion with.
Also, if you don’t like the questions I ask on here, or if you feel they are asked out of boredom, you do have the option to ignore and move on to another question that best meets your interest. Saving a collection of the questions I ask then using them to rant and vent in your responses to me seems rather questionable to be honest.
Having said this, it is imperative to understand CarTalk is a public forum accessible to everyone who wishes to ask car-related questions and not specifically limited to questions about fixing a transmission, hence the general discussion category.
As for the approval system currently being used it is doing nothing to make your long term members who give actual help feel wanted. I guess I had a recent post denied pointing out that current traffic is really reduced and listed why I thought so.
How many days has it been since we had a legit new member make a post, I don’t think we have had one since the spam attack… Anybody remember seeing one??
