Whenever our 1999 VW Passat is refueled it is hard to start on the first two attempts. After that it starts fine. This is a new problem on the last three fill-ups. IS it the fuel pump or the fuel filter? Or is it something else entirely?
Try this: When the auto shutoff shuts off, stop fueling. You may be overfilling the tank. If you don’t overfill then leave the gas cap loose and see if it starts easily. If it does then replace the gas cap.
