I have a packrat (?) nesting under the hood of my car. How to get rid of it for good?
Home Depot, Lowe’s, and some other stores sell Tomcat brand rat poison. It comes in small green cubes, and is apparently very appealing to rodents.
Put a cube of this stuff underneath the hood (in an area where vibration will not dislodge it readily) and the critter should be dead in 4 or 5 days. I used some a few weeks ago, and I did find several dead field mice in my garden after 4 or 5 days.
Just be vigilant for its body, as it will begin to stink shortly after it dies. Use gloves to dispose of the body.
Get a cat.

That doesn’t necessarily work. Cats and rats have been seen feeding on the same garbage pile in Baltimore.
