I have a 2001 neon that started sputtering yesterday like it was having trouble shifting. i got the code p0340 but it hasnt ever died or stalled. It just acts like its having a problem shifting and if i let off the gas and press it againg it’ll shif and stop sputtering. Is it really the cam sensor or something else like the transmission or filter? Any help would be nice.
That code has nothing to do with the transmission, and there isn’t a transmission problem that will trigger that code.

Note that the code also does not say that there is a problem with the cam sensor.
Of course, if the transmission is due for service (drop pan/replace filter every 30K miles) then you ought to do that too. But it has nothing to do with this code.
