Friend is selling 2011 accord w/60k miles. Has v6, and is in great shape. He wants about $10k. Lives in Oklahoma so no rust. Should I try and find a newer car for same money? I want a smallish sedan. Maybe even a civic size. Wifey wants a Prius. Again.
I’d go to cars.com, put in your max/min price and cars you’re interested in, and see what pops up.
I vote no
Get something newer, which will have more safety features and be more fuel efficient
And listen to the wife . . . unless you like sleeping on the couch or in the garage
Don’t EVER buy cars from friends
Don’t EVER do business with friends
It’s the surest way to ruin a friendship
There is your answer ?

Problem Solved.
Not sure what the KBB or Edmunds value is on a 2011 V6 Accord…but I’d advise you to review that before pursuing this deal any further.
Reason being… some folks add a good condition or low mileage “premium” to such “rare finds”. Doesn’t change the fact that the car is 15 years old, though.
It’s up to you if you want to pay such a “premium”…but just go into the potential deal aware of what you’re paying for. Also agree 100% on getting the wife’s input. No “great deal” is worth the disappointment and stares of hatred from your beloved…
Good luck.
Sounds like a good selection, it is not overburden with complex safety systems.
Do you this considered to be an older car compared to your 2007/2008 Equinox and Torrent?
Your wife can choose which ever car she would like, she doesn’t have to drive an Equinox.
Does the seller have receipts for timing belt replacement? The replacement interval is 105,000 miles or 7 years. Based on age, the Accord is due for its second timing belt replacement.
I don’t really want to spend $10k on any car. We had a 2015 civic and she said it was ok size wise. She said it rode kinda stiff vs the Prius. Equinox is gone. We have pops town and country and she thinks it’s a tank.
This older model has only 18k miles on the odometer!
Sounds like your wife needs a car and you are getting in the way…
Didn’t you have two Equinoxs and a Torrent? Seems like a lot of work reconditioning those vehicles, and now they are gone?
Prius for $10k is going to be a lower mile 2010 or slightly newer. Mom’s had great luck with hers since new on July 2009 with 5k oil changes and all services done on time by a shop that knows Toyota hybrids. Try to find a Three trim to get backup camera if it has navigation along with keyless on the hatch and passenger door. Two’s just have drivers door sks, ours is a two.
Normal age related repairs like tips failed at 14yrs old and headlights lasted 16yrs. Service history is as important as milea on it. Mom’s just crossed 114k and no issues at a recent oil change.
A 16yr-old car is still kind of old
And no offense intended, but most people overestimate the condition of the car and think regular jiffy lube oil changes, a pad slap and cheapo store brand tires means the car’s in prime shape . . . because they often don’t know there’s much more to it than that
Equinox and torrent are gone. Just have a vue and T&C.
Don’t you trust your assessment of the car? You stated the car is in great shape.
Buy the Accord. Low miles and very reliable.
