Old Member Hello

Well, some of you might remember me from way back when … like almost 10 years ago and before that. I used to contribute a lot here. For various reasons (unrelated to this discussion board) I stopped - back in 2014 (as far as I can tell from my profile). And oddly right around when Tom died, although that had nothing to do with my fading out.

I’ve done some poking around in here recently though, and I just have to say, without any equivocation, that this is the best “car talk” site on the entire WWW. I kind of lost sight of CarTalk. The show ended. Tom died. (And Ray is now doing eBay motors ads - !? wth). I figured it was all just “ending.” Since then I’ve joined a few vehicle-specific boards, more to ask questions than to participate. I just don’t have time. But those boards all basically suck for different kinds of reasons.

So I dropped back in to see the goings on. I do have a question (which I’ll post in a different thread sometime over the next couple/few days). Figured if anything was going on, I’d re-intro myself and ask. Figured I’d see if anyone I “knew” from the “old days” was still around and do some “@” name-dropping. And holy cow! It’s quite amazing. I started making a list of contributors I remembered and just gave up at the bottom of the the first notepad page! TOO MANY TO NAME. Heck - even Carolyn (@cdaquila ) is still heading up the show. I gave up on putting out a “long time no see” list. It would take me forever to make it and I’d be afraid of missing people.

This is rare folks. I’ve been on enough web boards (and not just cars) to know. Kudos to all of you who keep it alive - contributors and admin.

P.S. When I can finally retire, I’ll become a regular again, I think. But I have to retire first! This site was never good for my work-time management and productivity!

Yes nice to see people reappear. I think herding cats might be more descriptive than heading though.

Bill the cat. I knew I recognized it - couldn’t come up with it!

I’ve got a whole line up of rides. Still have a '97 Escort that was with me the whole time and probably got me here to start. I’ll be asking about weird throttle body behavior on a 2006 Saab 9-3 2.0T. Also in a classic '03 Prius (getting like 47mpg), '97 Ranger, and '02 GMC Envoy. Good to “see” you @jtsanders

LOL. I do remember that now - the waterboy to @Barkydog transition. I think it was one of the platform changes where you couldn’t get back in the same way? IDK. I think that’s how “mountainbike” ended up to be " @the_same_mountainbike " but that was an earlier platform change. I didn’t come across any recent mountainbike posts but hope all is well there.

Herding bill the cats, I guess

Thanks to all for the welcome backs.

One of the weird things about the other boards I’ve been on (mentioned in my OP) was just that there was so little “community.” People who just pretend others don’t exist, don’t seem to “chat” - just weird, anonymity. And sometimes just outright weird hostility.

I had to retire when i found that work was interfering with my time on here. Welcome back!

Sadly, old mountainbike is no longer with us, and neither is ok4450.

Great to hear from you. Looking forward to your insights and comments, always spot on
