I drive only 1,000 miles a year in sunny California weather, so how often should I change my oil?
How do you drive those 1k miles ?
2 trips of 500 miles each every six months?
or
3 miles every day?
or
etc, etc, etc…
Open that little book that came with your car (or order one if non came with a used car) It will answer your question. It will likely say X miles or X months, whichever comes first. That’s all there is to it.
Be sure to use an oil that meets the specifications in that book and Don’t have it changed at a quick oil place.
Even the owners manual is not setup to handle your unique situation. Once a year should work for you. 2 or 3 would be more likely. Time will destroy your car more than any “per mile” insult that it can see.
Change it every 6 months if you use conventional oil.
Change it once a year if you use full synthetic.
