Number of motor mounts for 1988 Chevrolet Nova / Toyota Corolla

How many motor mounts does my 1988 Chevrolet Nova, 4A-LC SOHC, 5-speed manual transmission have? What is the best source for this information? The service manual (which I have) omitted this topic.

I have been getting quotes from mechanics to replace all of the motor mounts. Estimates differ in the number of mounts (two or three).

There are four mounts.

One to support the front of the engine. 12362

Two where the engine meets the transmission to control torque movement. 12361A, 12371A

One to support the transmission. 12372A

Thanks. What is the illustration from? A parts catalogue?

Also, do you see any indication of whether the parts in question are consistently named “motor mounts”? Varied terminology could explain some of the ambiguity when people are searching for parts.

Motor mounts are the common name, but engine, transmission and torque mounts are more the technical name…
I’m sure that some manufactures have their own names… lol

Toyota parts catalog; 1988 TOYOTA COROLLA SEDAN, DX 1600CC 16-VALVE DOHC EFI, AUTOMATIC 3-SPEED MOUNTING

Each is listed as “Insulator, engine mounting/motor mount”.

The mount shown as 12372A is commonly referred to as a “transmission mount” by mechanics.

The engine and transmission are one assembly, each mount supports the engine/transmission assembly, therefore Toyota lists them all as engine mounts.

The configuration in my engine compartment might be different from that. The illustration is for a DOHC EFI, automatic 3-speed. Mine is a SOHC carbureted, manual 5-speed.

Same diagram, different part numbers. Raise the hood and see if the engine mounts are as shown.

One mount where the engine is supported near the right fender. One mount where the transmission is supported near the left fender.

One mount near the bottom of the radiator and another on the opposite side of the engine at the base of the firewall.
