My Automatic 02 Jetta will not reverse. If I hit the gas the engine revs like like im in neutral or park. No problems in drive and changes gears no problems. Whats wrong and how much will it cost?
Did this problem occur suddenly? Has reverse been slipping until now it doesn’t engage at all?
You most likely have lost the reverse clutch pack. Either the snap ring has come loose from the case or drum; the clutch piston seal is leaking; or the friction discs are worn out. You are probably looking at a transmission rebuild.
Have a transmission technician run a diagnostic on the system. A pressure check of line pressure while in reverse will point in the right direction.
