Nissan Almera electric problem

Hey

I have a Nissan Almera 1999 N15 GA16DE, for some reason it drains the battery occasionally when the car is off and parked. If I leave the battery cables connected, it takes about a week for it to drain the battery.. Also the dashboard gauges show whatever, sometimes the speedometer and RPM gauge show 0 even though im driving.. Sometimes they work normal though.. And when the car is parked and turned off, the fuel gauge is usually at MAX even though it should be at 0, so there is some electrical problem going on..

Could it be faulty ECM? Bad grounding? I ordered OBD1 adapter so maybe it will help me locate the problem.. Also I removed the 3 connectors behind dashboard and put them back in, I dont think they are causing the issue.. And there are couple of blown light bulbs in the dashboard, I couldnt find similar bulbs from local stores but I dont think they are causing this issue either..

Any suggestions?

You might have a parasitic electrical drain. That will cause unusual readings from your gauges. The other two possibilities could cause them too. Unless you can troubleshoot the electrical system, take it to a shop for diagnosis.

You have a parasitic drain. You need a volt ohm meter and to watch a video on how to properly do the test.

Both Eric the Car Guy and Humble Mechanic on YouTube have good instructional videos.

The BEST Way TO Perform a Parasitic Draw Test

As long as it’s not Scotty giving advice . . .

edit: I found a fuse to my multimeter and I connected the battery in series with the terminal.. The car pulls 0.02-0.03A when parked which is probably normal.. However, it still drains the battery for some reason.. I think it just decides at some point to draw more power and then it has no power to turn the engine on.. I will keep the cable connected and keep a log of battery capacity over days and see when it drains it..

Why I cant make new topic? “Multiple errors occurred: 1) You’re not allowed to tag topics 2) There was an error tagging the topic.”

I have problem. My MAF sensor broke in this car. I bought new one but it needs to be relearned with the ECU. Nissan DataScan 2 have this function but my car only supports NDS 1. I tried the “pedal dance procedure” several times without success. How is this relearn done with older 1999 models?

Some of the Nissans I have delt with years ago required the ecm to be flashed when certain parts were replaced, but those were all drive by wire Nissan vehicles…

Yours should be plug-n-play if I remember right…

You simply may just have a defective part and or a cheap bargain part from like Auto Zone or Amazon/eBay, or cheap store brand…

What does Live Data show using the bad one vs the new one??

I haven’t replace a lot of genuinely defective MAF sensors, fwiw

But I have encountered many that were replaced in error by someone else because they were “blaming the messenger” due to misinformation about how things function

In other words, are you absolutely certain the MAF was the root cause of the problem?

my car just shut off in the middle of the road. I plugged obd and used ecutalk software, and when it shut off again, it said “mass air flow sen error code 12 (iirc the error code number)”. it struggles to stay on at low rpm, and usually just shuts off. I also replaced O2 sensor. I bought the new MAF sensor (and O2) from AliExpress, so yeah its a cheap one. When I disconnected the old sensor, the car went to limp mode. I reinstalled the new sensor and its still in limp mode.

I go check if I get some air flow readings with obd…

Okay

Good information there

Thanks

using ecutalk, Air Flow sensor is at 0v (engine running). Maybe its defective part :frowning: or maybe it needs to be relearned/flashed with ECU…

Have you made everything electrical, as regards the MAF, is good

12v, ground, 5v reference

okay so i was checking if the wire gets readings… then i thought, maybe the connector is not pushed all the way in. I pushed it strongly and it snapped in. car is working work now

thanks for the help
