Recently purchased a '99 Toyota Camry LE 4CYL that turns out to be a lemon. Now it doesn’t start. Dealer says it needs a new engine wiring harness due to hack work done by previous owner. Toyota no longer makes this part (no. 82115-06050). Have called all the junk yards in my area and can’t find it. Any advise, suggestions for tracking down this part? Thanks in advance!
Maybe a better hacker can fix your problem cheaper.
It depends upon how bad the harness is, but that does sound like an option, doesn’t it? Note that dealers tend to not fix bad wiring problems, but to replace the harness which on an older car can be really expensive. Or, so regulars here have said.
If there are 50 bad or intermittent wires, yeah, you may need a new harness. But, if your problems are only 2 or 3 bad wires, a buddy with some knowledge might be able to fix it fast. Not enough information to go on.
That makes sense. Thank you to all for responding.
try this web site www.uneedapart.com
Here is another website to try. I found several engine wireing harnesses on it from $200 to $125 dollars. Put your car info in then under Electrical Part Misc and Wiring look for your engine harness. Website is www.car-part.com
I agree. Have you ever heard of a hacker space? It’s a loose collaboration of people with different specialties. The 2 that I know best are i3 Detroit http://www.i3detroit.com/ and Makers Alliance Cleveland http://www.makersalliance.org/. Anyway, if it’s something you are interested in, these guys would be able to make you a new harness from scratch. And you could share some information on your specialty.
just a thought.
Many cities have a hacker space. Do a quick google search and see if you can find one.
I was gonna say to use car-part.com as well, its a boneyard listing with parts from boneyards all over the country. You should be able to find on there. Most boneyards will ship the part as well.
If I remember to research this at the shop I will post later. There is a company near Chicago that will rebuild harnesses and sockets. I have used them before but cannot remember the name. Do some checking around.
