I am going to try to put a hitch on my equinox. There is a metal flap at center position that interferes with mounting flange. Ok, I have a torrent also. I looked at it and it has the same exact metal flap. Yes, bumper bar is rusty but was wondering if anyone knows what this is? It is solid. I used a pry bar to try and move it. It won’t go up and I can’t make it lay flat. Going to cut it out.
It just seems so out of place. Why is it at an odd angle?
That’s some serious corrosion.
Are you sure you want to put a hitch mount on that?
I knew that was coming. The hitch mounts to outside frame rails which are ok. The center mount bolts to crash bar. Which is “ok”. I’m pulling a small trailer for leaf dump. Not pulling a travel trailer.
Was mostly wondering why both cars have flap in same exact position. At 30 deg angle, approx.
It is solid. I cannot move it. Thought it would easily push out of way. But nope. It is really hard to move.
The mounting holes have thread inserts. You screw in hitch bolts. I can see some threads. Figure I’ll have to use a thread chaser to possibly work. M12-1.75. Which is std course threads.
So what happened with the metal “flap”. I was curious about it. Back when you first posted I looked around for what that could be and the closest I could come was that the bumper structure at some point was removed or pulled away and that welded on “flap” ended up below the place where it would normally sit. But all a guess…
I recently put a bolt on Curt class III on my Ody. One side of the van frame rail had a protective cover over the bolt holes so they were essentially pristine. The other side was inexplicably exposed to the elements and rusted pretty good. Chasing those threads turned into a major headache but eventually prevailed. So easy today with the plug in harness options. The Ody had a fuse box right at the left rear corner inside to make all the connections and install the fuses.
