And BTW, I have repeatedly had a pop up mentioning that Rush Limbaugh is failing(?) that is labelled as an ad on this forum. What gives?
The forum software is becoming overwhelmed by the advertisements of its subcontractors. I haven’t seen the Rush Limbaugh one, but I’m getting plenty of others.
I hate to see it happening, but I can live with it considering the price… I’ve seen some forums moving toward subscriptions. We get a lot here for our money.
I am not seeing popups. @cdaquila Carolyn, can you shed some light on this?
Are you sure this is a pop-up, I haven’t seen any such. Just ads interspaced between posts.
Pop-ups are generally new browser windows that display advertisements.
I do not even click on videos anymore, watch an ad first seems to be the norm, if it is not in print, I am not going there. No I live with the ads and popups, occasionally click on on because I think I know the site gets monetary credit, not feeling too much guilt. So everyone wants paperless billing for what you buy, cannot blame them, but as you may know we recently leased a car, got the payment info, set up an account for recalls and info, I definitely did not check the paperless billing for car payments, and in fact checked send me a monthly statement by mail, got an email today, thanks for signing up for paperless billing. EXPLICITIVE. Went through the same with satellite tv, even called them, we will send you a bill in the mail each month, does not happen, now the same with verizon, Now I have to read emails for my bill and numerous calls do not seem to resolve the issue. I hate email, and bills vary month to month, guess I have to beg harder, please offerme the service I want, pleas please please, sorry we are experiencng a high volume in the number of calls your hold time estimated at (less than 2 days I hope they say) Sorry to be bitching, but as clark howard says, customer no service.
Although I have little problem with online statements and billing, I feel I should get a portion of the savings. That is, the bank (for example) saves a lot of money by dropping the paper statements. Before I OK that, I want to get some portion of that savings, such as an interest increase, or whatever. But as long as there is no savings, send me the paper, I may need it sometime.
Another reason is that many (most?) online accounts only save your statements for a year or so. Not good enough.
Very strange. I haven’t gotten any pop-ups. @the_same_mountainbik , are you getting separate windows as described by @BillRussell?
For lack of a better term I called them pop-ups but yes, they are just another of the many ads that regularly get dropped in among posts here. And on this particular thread there were 2 different ads mentioning that Rush was in trouble but didn’t open them. The only ads that I open are the ones that offer some product or service that interests me. And I am burned out hearing the Ying and Yang of politics from radio and television personalities whose only loyalty is to their pay check. For a $million a week I might sound quite authoritative and 99.9% correct regardless what opinion I was assigned.
Early on I recognized the Lonesome Rhodes character in many of the political hacks in the media. Andy Griffin’s role was very prophetic
OK, thanks. I’ll ask about the ad content. I know they use a third-party ad service.
Related to popups if you are on windows, try windows defender offline from microsoft, cancel quick scan and pick full scan or try malwarebytes, I can provide the links if needed, but I think it is a computer specific issue, not a generic issue, saying your computer has been compromised by malware.
I have got some ad’s for porn sites.
see previous post
I have become very wary of the companies that offer malware protection. While there is some obvious improvement after they take my money the glitches I wanted corrected are replaced with sluggish service. And of course whatever is initially purchased in a few weeks the provider offers a more powerful and all inclusive protection plan for $100 more. It’s like winning the Teddy Bear at a carnival. No matter how many rings you hang all you get is the little frog and the chance to try again… and again.
Sometimes but generally on this forum the ones mixed into the thread are inanimate. The animated ones take up tons of bandwidth, like a “Wide Load” on a narrow highway. I hate those.
I have noticed the forum stumbling and stalling lately, however, requiring me to reboot. It just stopped for a moment as I was typing this entry. I had to wait for a moment while it did whatever it was doing.
I also have the same problem with having to reboot.
see above post and if you are using internet explorer get chrome or firefox. If I keep hitting myself with a hammer after a while it does not feel so bad.
I do use chrome as far as hitting yourself with a hammer Jack daniels help’s.
We had so much trouble with Chrome at the college before I retired that the IT guys had to remove it from all the computers. I avoid that software like the plague.
The Rush ones are for ED ads. But there are all kinds of other pop ups. Sometimes it just keys on a word like “valve” and there is an ad for water valves. You can click on the X and Google says they will try and not show that one anymore. Yeah like I trust Google. I also started getting some pretty bad ones in my junk Email maybe about the same time-I don’t know. I never paid much attention to the junk folder before. I don’t give out my email except for ordering stuff but seems like it either started here or when I tried to sign up for Equifax after their hack. I think they have been totally compromised. So who knows?
Can you tell me which products are advertised in the video ads? When I’ve reported these things before I’ve been asked for the specifics, so please bear with me. Thanks.
