Made in Japan Cars 1997-2005

Hey there,

is there an easy way to find out which car modells were manufractured in japan?

If you are looking at used vehicles why does that matter ?

The Toyota parts department seems to know if you give them the VIN.

Generally, the 1st character in the VIN number will tell you the build country… J normally stands for Japan, 1 normally USA, 3 normally is Mexico, etc etc…

I have seen axles bolt in vs slide in to the transaxle with a retaining ring depending on Japan or USA built…

Open the driver’s door and look at the tag. It will show the origin.

Keep in mind, the big sellers from Japanese carmakers are usually built in the US. Camry, Corolla, Accord and more. Korean cars, too.

Where in the post does it say the poster is looking for used vehicles ?

Look at the heading - 1997 to 2005.

Very easy to identify the country of origin, the VIN is visible through the windshield.

Why would anyone want to know? Some replacement parts depend on country of assembly. You should know this when ordering parts and not need to depend on a car dealer for advice.
