Feels like it’s starting in 2nd or 3rd. Car has 315k and was recently serviced; the oil was clear red with no sediment on the magnet. The timing chain is original.

This is a shifting problem. That could be caused by a couple of things, including the torque converter being worn out, 315k miles is a heck of a lot of miles. What year? makes a difference if it has a transmission computer or not.
