I recall a show where the caller was concerned about a transmission having a few left over parts, and the joke was stated that “if you take re-assemble a transmission enough times, you will eventually have 2 of them!”, yet I cannot find the show.

I remember that call as well. I think Ray was referring to an air cooled VW Beetle, if that is of any help. I’ve heard that call on the PBS station normal Car Talk broadcast within the past 2 years I’d guess. This website provides an archived written summary of each call, so you could look through those archives for calls about VW Beetles maybe.
