Jay Leno Garage and Ford GT

Never been a big Ford Fan. But if I won Powerball this would be the first car I’d buy. It is a true testament to Ford. I think I’ll watch Ford vs Ferrari again.

If I won a bunch of money, I’d get a well preserved Ford Probe. Those cars are plenty sporty, and fun to drive, and cost a whole lot less.

Yep, Ford Probe, Ford GT, two peas in a pod!

I prefer the earlier GT. The one that came out in the early 2000s. Supercharged V8 and it looked more like the GT40 from the 60s.

They are selling for roughly $250K these days.

Ford Probe vs Ford GT. You’re comparing a pair of pliers to a pig. One really has nothing to do with the other.

Value for both gens depending in colors and options along with mi. Jay put more miles on that gt in a week than many have ever been driven. He’s now taken delivery of his Mustang Gtd.

Now that the no-flip period is up many are for sale with sub 100mi and still as delivered. Still possible to find a driven but cared for previous gen gt for under $500,000 if you want a driver.

Other than the fact that one vehicle costs hundreds of thousands of dollars or more, and one costs about $10k in near-mint condition (or less than $5k in daily driver condition), I am going to disagree. The Ford Probe was an excellent sports car, even by today’s standards. It isn’t a supercar, but it basically does the same thing. And there were trim levels of the Ford Probe which had the same racing stripe, etc.

Our definitions of excellent sports cars are wayyyyyy different… lol

I worked on many Probes and driven many of them, sporty never came to mind, now the Saturn SC2 was a fun little fast for the time car, the Eclipse 2.0 DOHC was a fun little driver, but the Probe, not so much…

I’ve had the front end off and the dash out of a couple of Probes swapping 100% of the A/C from a factory A/C car to a non A/C car, not a fun job either… I hated those cars…

However, they did make a good drag race car when full framed and made RWD with a big V8…

Comparing a rebadged Mazda to a modern-day race machine…they just don’t do the same thing. Straight line acceleration, cornering and handling, performance on race day, the two cars are fifth cousins twice removed.

That’s not to say I would buy one if I won the Powerball tomorrow. Those cars just aren’t my thing. You’re more likely to find me in a ‘64 Coupe DeVille or a ‘56 Olds. Would you say the 64 Cadillac basically does the same thing as a 98 Camry?
