I suspect AC is not the reason, though possibly a small bit. More likely manufacturer cost savings. Two pieces of glass vs one piece, extra materials for the vertical metal &weather stripping, less labor involved. Luxury cars often had powered vent windows, more cost and complexity.

The 90’s Probe I spoke of earlier (no factory A/C) that I installed factory A/C from a donor Probe, it didn’t have vent/wing windows…
Lots of trucks still had vent windows with factory A/C…
