Me too, zero degrees at the White Castle, helpful to sober up classmates!
Yeah I’m not a convertible fan. Our friends rented a convert in Hawaii and we took it up to the volcano. Top down, we were in the back, cold wind blowing, bundling up as much as we could. Never had our parkas along. Never had a fun ride out in the open with no top. Call me a geezer but give me a roof and a heater when it gets below 60.
Just in case you may want a sunroof. Not sure why it says redirecting, seems safe but story guy and lady, he pulls in over the line, she backs in her space but blocking guys door access while she hops out the sunroof. Facebook video post
Redirecting...
Me three. While I didn’t own a convertible I did rent them whenever available on business trips. I had a Mustang convertible during the winter in Los Angeles. Work was in one of the beach community and I stayed within.a half mile of LAX. Temperatures that close to the ocean were moderate and it got cold at night. Still, I’d put the top down with the heater on. Gotta put the top down as long as it isn’t raining.
That reminds me of a story. I had a vw rabbit convertible. One day I was driving home from somewhere and I stopped for a light. I was in my 20s at the time. Some guy just jumped into my car, didn’t even open the door just jumped over the door as I had the roof down.
He says hey can you give me a ride? Well since you’re already in my car sure why not. Asked where I was going and seemed fine with that. Asked why he needed a lift and responded well he just got out of jail. Being a big city boy I knew not to show fear so I asked jeez what for? Robbery. Hmm…. So we talked for maybe some 20 minutes until his destination on my way. He jumped out (using the door this time) and thanked me for the ride and was on his way!
You can talk about the great California climate but just back from San Diego and it never got much over 60 degrees. That’s not warm.
Everyone seemed to have a dog or two. In shops, restaurants, etc. you can only bring service dogs inside in minnesota. At least they seem to pick up after them. Maybe they just prefer dogs over kids. I dunno.
Same here, only service animals allowed.
A lot of dogs in the stores now, if you remind them that no dogs are allowed in the store,
They just say it’s a service animal, and unfortunately they do not have to prove it in this state.
I wish they’d do that here in NH. I LOVE animals, but I’m also allergic to many dogs. It’s gotten out of control at many businesses here in NH.
As you may (or may not) recall, I was discussing moderate temperatures along the Pacific Coast. It’s generally like that all year, except when Santa Ana winds come from the east and every place, including the Pacific beaches, are oppressively hot. San Diego also gets very hot, just no at the ocean. Most visitors don’t go far enough east the encounter the summer heat.
It ain’t hot till you add the humidity to the heat… lol
(that was mostly a joke, don’t need a lecture on heat)
I want a new Rav 4. the XLE (current model I have), has a sunroof. You have to downgrade to the LE to avoid one. But then you need to buy aluminum rims if you want them (I hate the new style of rims to be honest). And don’t get rear cross traffic alert either.
You just close the inside cover and you’ll never know it’s there until waxing the roof.
That’s what I’ve always said.
The advantage of the modern moonroof is a separate shade that can be kept closed, vs a sunroof, which is just a single solid panel with matching headliner inside and matching sheet metal on top.
I’m currently in search of a car in the Philippines with a moonroof. But the situation there is opposite that in North America: 80 percent of cars in Philippines don’t have moon or sunroofs, whereas in the States, 80 percent do.
@oilman - sounds like some folks here will be happy to send you the $1,000 to pay for that moonroof you don’t want!
I think they’re all ‘moonroofs’ now, I don’t remember seeing an all-metal one on a new car.
Not a lecture, but a funny story. I arrived in Phoenix at about 9pm and it was still over 100F. After the limo driver picked me up the conversation eventually turned to how hot Phoenix had been. He started complaining about the visitors from cooler places that said “oh, but it’s a dry heat”. He said his response was always to turn the oven on , stick their head in, and see if they still think dry heat makes much difference.
Few years ago a customer brought in his 12 year old Mitsubishi with the sunroof stuck partially open. Seems he was cleaning out the inside of his car when he noticed a switch up near the reading lights and wondered what it did. He flipped the switch and the interior shade and sunroof started opening. That startled him so much that he immediately pulled the switch the other way, and at that point the sunroof reversed and jammed. probably due to never having been used in over 12 years.
Yes, this person bought a new car and drove it for 12 years without even knowing it had a sunroof.
Well, it seems that a lot of BMW drivers don’t know that their vehicle has directional signals, so…
I don’t need no stinkin owner’s manual or Monroney sticker.
I’ll just let my car reveal itself as time goes on!
It’s a shame that George seems to have left this forum, because this is an issue that he would probably have had an opinion on.
