The Sunroof is probably the most overhyped feature right now. It’s one of those features that’ll make you wow" when buying, only to never use it again. I have seen so many friends of mine paying more for a used car having a sunroof and rarely ever using it.
The sunroof also makes the car prone to heating and leakage(even with the cover on) since the cover is not as thick compared to the car’s sunroof. The opened sunroof is also nothing but a headache - making the environment noisy and it seriously screws the aerodynamics resulting in additional drag and more fuel consumption. Not to mention the additional maintenance it requires.
I think companies should finally omit sunroofs and actually make some useful features standard across all trims like the ventilated seats, 360⁰ cameras, and ADAS.
That’s my opinion. What do you guys think about it?
basically means (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) - a name for multiple active safety features like Collision Avoidance and Blind Spot Detection etc.
While I didn’t want a sunroof on my last few cars, I really had no choice because it always seems to be part of a “package” or trim line that I want. That being said, I do use it… to some extent.
During the winter, I open the sunshade while it is parked, and that helps to heat-up the interior by several degrees. In the warmer months, if the temp isn’t very high, I use the sunroof’s “tilt” feature, and that–combined with just the vents–keeps the vehicle comfortable. And, during the summer I use the “tilt” feature (with the sunshade opened just ~1 inch), in order to ventilate the car when it is parked.
So far, I’ve had 6 vehicles with a sunroof, and none of them EVER needed to have that mechanism repaired. Even my brother’s '64 VW bug–which had a Golde manual crank sunroof–was problem-free.
I don’t own one but thanks, will ask my friend about it and if he hates it, I’ll make sure to piss him off by telling him about "turn stalk benefits until he start using it
The sunroof makes the car light and bright so I don’t feel like I’m stuck in a cave. The tilt feature pulls smoke out of the car quite well. When the kids were little having a sunroof allowed the kids to sit on the roof with their legs dangling in the car while looking at Christmas lights at the park.
If I had to choose between having a sunroof or ADAS, I would choose the sunroof. ADAS does nothing to make my driving experience more enjoyable. A sunroof does.
I used the sunroof in my Accords mostly to cool the interior on hot days. As I approached the car, I’d push the unlock button twice and hold it until all the door windows were down. By then the sunroof would be fully open. It’s amazing how fast the heat dissipates with all windows and the sunroof open.
My only car I had without a sunroof was a 2003 Toyota Camry LE. And it was the only thing I hated about the car!
I love sunroof
I mostly use the sunroof at nights. The lilt feature where wind gently enters the car and cools the back of my neck. I love it.
**Sunroof ** gets me a lot of romantic kisses.
With the roof opened, the girl and I looking upwards towards the natural moon and stars, I happened to get things going romantically.
Sunroof keeps the car smelling fresh during unwanted moments where either you or a passenger needs to release gas without having to give away yourself by scrolling down the side windows.
The very idea of a sunroof or moonroof is so dumb that I cannot wrap my head around why anyone would want such a thing. I remember when my step-sister bought a car with a sunroof, and after owning it for less than two years, the sunroof jammed partially open, and it cost quite a bit of money to have the mechanism repaired.
You literally could not give me a car with a sunroof as a gift, and I’d happily buy an older/higher miles model to avoid this terrible “feature”.
I agree. I’d like something comparable to the Dodge Spirit or Dodge Shadow. A very basic car with a fuel-efficient engine, automatic transmission, and not much else. And of course, a price which average people working average jobs can easily afford.
I think the class divide and geographical wage disparity so large that even an “average” price car would be too costly for a great many people. I see certified welders making $25/hr in some states, and high school kids washing dishes making more than that in another state.
I have several friends who are constantly moping about “having” to pay $95K for that F250 crew cab diesel with the lift kit and wheels etc. And I think to myself that the reason they can get that much money is that they are willing to pay it.
My 59 vw had a sun roof. The salesman said the previous owner was an architect and would prop long lumber out the top. Now that I’m not a teenager I really don’t care, but the wife does. That means we buy cars that have them and some companies continue to provide cars that people want.
