Inconsiderate parking lot behavior

I am considering getting a pistol myself. I ve had long guns since I was 13, but never a pistol.

these days tho, I can t run and I can t fight and a proper ass whipping might be all she wrote for me. there are some real thugs out there…

@db4690‌, it would not be profiling since you reported him. Maybe @wolyrobb‌’s suggestion to report him to store management is a good way to go.

I too get antsy over firearms discussions. People go nuts over the issue.
Besides, this is supposed to be a car forum.

To combine firearms and cars into one topic consider the news story here in OK the other day.
A small town police chief in NE OK was spotted by a city council member getting into his patrol car after exiting a store with alcohol in hand. The councilman confronted the chief who promptly tried to run the guy over; knocking him down in the process with minor injuries involved.

The state highway patrol stopped the chief and arrested him for DUI and possibly other charges.
The good chief has been convicted twice before of DUI in the past 10 years.

There you have it in one shot; law enforcement, guns, cars, alcohol, drunk driving, rude behavior, parking lots, and what could be construed as assault at the least or attempted murder at the worst with hit and run somewhere in the middle…

Kind of par for the course in this neck of the woods; another “Chief of The Week Arrest”… :wink:

@ok4450‌

It’s amazing that this guy was allowed to remain police chief, with those 2 previous DUI in the past 10 years

How did that guy get his job?

Was he elected?

Was he appointed?

oh mountainbike, I hope you don t take this the wrong way, but you had no problem with a little diversion into freedom of religion in another thread. people go nuts over that too.

anyway, I m not criticizing, just observing. you know I m a fan of letting conversations follow their natural course, especially on long car rides… with armed preachers…

I’m comfortable discussing freedom of religion on a public forum. I’m not comfortable discussing firearms on a public forum unless it’s a firearms forum. There the discussion is technical, here it would be philosophical, and I’m just not comfortable with that. A lot of people get very, very upset with those discussions. Lets not allow this forum to go there. Carolyn has been very tolerant of late, but if she pulled the plug on that discussion I’d agree with her.

@db4690, most of those chiefs of police are hired directly by the city council in smaller towns. When this story first popped up the other day and the reporter was interviewing the city councilman who had been struck by the police car my first thought was well, who hired this guy? No background check or flat didn’t care?
The police chief was a former sheriff’s deputy so obviously he’s been around a while and known.

It was stated they had “heard rumors and now it’s true”… How obvious does it have to be for a guy in uniform in a marked car to stroll in and buy alcohol in a place where everybody knows everybody else.

well, I ll drop it out of respect, but I think your logic is a bit off.

mountainbike

I agree with wes on this

Your logic doesn’t really add up

Don’t take what I just too hard

Nobody can be perfect all the time

For example, this week at work, I made a big misdiagnosis. I won’t provide any details, except to say that expensive and unneeded parts were installed

The only saving grace is that since I’m a civil servant fleet mechanic, no individual person’s pocketbook was harmed

Two rules: Never try to run your boss over, and if you misdiagnose something, don’t tell anyone.

I don’t have a hand gun although I’ve always wanted one. My dad wouldn’t let me have one because he said he threw his in the lake after almost shooting himself. Now my wife won’t let me have one and I’d have to get a permit from the sheriff who goes to our church and he’d think I’m nuts. Plus most of my friends would think I’m nuts. When I worked and drove all over the state I would have liked to have one, especially in the wild north country, but could have been fired for it. Now I don’t need one except when I go to Ohio. I do carry a weapon in the car though that doubles as a lawn tool and always have a pencil. Life is like a box of chocolates.

I don’t think there’s a mechanic alive who hasn’t made a misdiagnosis or a bonehead mistake where the brain goes one direction and the hands another.

One of my worst was frying a brand new 400 dollar Bosch alternator. Everything was cool and I was covered but the embarassment of doing something stoopid dents the ego; and with me it lingers a lifetime. I never forget the WTH were you thinking moments… :frowning:

@Bing‌

As far as not telling anybody about a misdiagnosis, I can see where you’re coming from . . .

However, I sometimes feel it’s best to fess up to your mistakes

Here’s why . . .

I’ve known a few guys who claimed their s . . .t didn’t stink. They claimed they never misdiagnosed anything, didn’t make mistakes, etc. Well, we all thought that’s highly improbable, plus these guys had a pretty arrogant attitude, which didn’t go over too well

Anyways, when we finally did observe them making a couple of major mistakes and misdiagnosis, we made sure to be looking over their shoulder while they did it. We figuratively tore them a new one. Those guys ate humble pie . . . big time

It would have been better for them if they’d not had that attitude in the first place

A lot of those guys that are bragging how great they are, I’ve seen a few of them fall flat on their face, so to speak.

I’ve never pretended to be the best. I’ve never pretended I don’t make mistakes. I think it’s better to fess up, versus being caught in a lie, or caught being a fool

But I do agree on the other thing . . . don’t run your boss over

Fortunately, wes and db, I don’t have to justify my inconsistencies with you guys. And I refuse to.
Suffice to say that I feel comfortable discussing some things and not others. If you guys don’t like it, tough.

@the_same_mountainbike no problem here, have not read through the 12 pages, but have found your responses helpful to many people. Now can someone succinctly why there is an issue that a well respected board member is feeling angst?

@Barkydog‌

Clearly, none of the board members are feeling angst . . . !

mountainbike

Thanks for at least acknowledging the inconsistencies

That’s more than some people do

Just kidding about not telling anyone by the way.

@Bing‌

I thought you were serious . . .

This week, when I realized I had made a misdiagnosis . . . electrical problem, by the way . . . I immediately told my boss

I’d rather it came from me, versus one of my colleagues tells him what happened

I’m not saying my colleagues are a bad bunch. It’s just that somebody shooting the breeze might “let it slip” that I misdiagnosed a vehicle

Better it come from me immediately, versus he hear about it matter of fact during lunch a few weeks from now, from somebody else

Thanks barky.
It’s simple. Wes and db have judged me and seem to feel I’m inconsistent because I feel comfortable discussing freedom of religion on the forum but uncomfortable discussing firearms. They seem to have passed judgment on that, deemed me inconsistent, and feel I owe them some sort of explanation. It’ll be a cold day in Hell before they get one. I don’t need or seek their approval for my preferences. Nor do I give a damn if they judge me inconsistent. Or anything else, for that matter. I wrote a response that I have no intention of justifying my inconsistencies to them, and now Db now claims I’ve acknowledged the correctness of their judgment. He’s 100% wrong, but I don’t give a damn.

This is a good forum, and I’ve enjoyed participating for many years. But, frankly, I’m getting sick of some of the games going on these days. I’ll stay on for now. I still enjoy helping people, and I do enjoy an intelligent debate without judgementalism and name calling. If sometime in the near future I disappear, you’ll know why.

I wish I’d never had to write this post. I hope I never have to again. Sincere apologies to everyone else.
