I collect bumblebee marbles because they remind me of my grandfathers car, probably the late 50’s. Brown or black and yellow. My recollection is the top and bottom of the rear fenders were dark, and the middle was yellow, and contrast continued to the front of the car. Any ideas? Bumblebee marble slag picture for reference.
55 OR 56 Olds.
Lots of two and three tone cars back then. Why do you think the colors make it unique?
True but the Olds if I remember right was the only one that was black and yellow.
Our 57 ford was black and yellow. Less popular was brown and yellow. I think this was also offered in 1956. Seems to me Nash in early 50s had colors and also the bumble bee shape. The metropolitan was the right shape but the black was the top not the bottom and no black and yellow that I remember.
Thanks all,56 olds sport sedan looks close to my memory.
I would ask, have you gone through any old family albums, asked relatives if any of them remember your grandfather’s car, and finally, have you Googled what you have described to us, for instance…
Google “black and yellow cars from the 50s” or Google “brown and yellow cars from the 50s” then click on Images and up pops hundreds of images that might refresh your memory…
I for one think your Grandfather was a Taxi Driver and here is his car… he drove a 1958 Austin Fx3 Taxi in Kansas City, Missouri… L L . . .
You guys must be really young. My grandfather had something like a 39 Pontiac. The other one died before I was born.
I wonder if my grandkids will be looking for that yellow Morris minor of mine some day. Good luck, it was a one off. Yellow body, black interior.
No pics, Anyone who might remember is long gone, course they went at 92, 98 and 103 and never thought to ask. It was not a taxi @LoudThunder don’t be ridiculous.
I didn’t think they’d kept it but my dad has the invoice I believe for my grandfather’s 1947 Chevy which arrived the day dad was born. I’ve seen a photo of the car after it returned from living overseas with my grandmother holding the Lebanon licence plate at the sign welcoming you to Lebanon Kansas, the family lived in Beruit in the early 50’s (grandpa worked for the government as a water resource engineer) the traveloge of the trip from Beruit to Baghdad via the Syrian is safely tucked away but we read it when going through all the boxes of stuff in Grandpa’s house back in 2006.
This is close, though I think I remember dark on the bottom of the rear fenders and less black on the top, and maybe a stripe down the middle of the doors…
Me being ridiculous? I am not the one who showed up with a busted marble asking for help identifying Grampie’s car with only a vague memory of the color of the car “Black or Brown”… I guess the " L L " didn’t bring a smile to your face…
Since you think I am being ridiculous, I suppose you are not open the Gramps driving “Bubble Bee?” Well Back to the Future… L L . . .
PS: Bumble Bee was a Taxi in his first trip to Earth…
The 57 ford had black or brown on the bottom, yellow in the middle and hood and trunk, and black or brown on the roof. Thought black on the bottom was a requirement. That was a factory scheme.
'58 yellow Sunliner
My 56 Desoto was yellow and brown and it also came in yellow and black/ The 55 and 56 Hudson Hornet also came in yellow and black, had the Hornet name and looked like a fat bumblebee.
