1996 Honda Accord will not start. When ignition is turned on the “P” Park and “D” Drive lights come on, then the “D” goes out after a few seconds. Does that indicate a problem with the Transmission Position Senor? I have been able to start the car a few time by running the gear shift top to bottom about a dozen times, but this no longer works.
Sounds like a bad neutral safety switch. Try shifting to ‘Neutral’ and see if it starts.
The neutral safety switch prevents you from starting the car unless the gear shift is in ‘Park’ or ‘Neutral’. If it starts in ‘Neutral’, you’ll need a new safety switch. I think Honda puts these in the shift console IIRC.
