A 4 cylinder doesn’t always get better mileage than an engine with more cylinders though. Gear ratio, torque, etc. have a lot to do with it.
About a month ago I took a short (comparatively) road trip and my 4.6 Lincoln got 29.4 MPG. That ain’t bad for a 2 ton, RWD drive car.
It’s a far sight better than the '68 Roadrunner and '69 Superbee that I used to own. With the foot down the gas gauge would start crying…
