Had tires replaced, just noticed one was made in 2023-I expected tires from 2025?

I expected “new” tires, one shows DOT 4323, so it was made in the 43 rd week in 2023, the other tires I can’t verify because date must be on the inside. I did not look at the tires before they were mounted. I don’t know when the other tires were manufactured. This is a tire place that just deals with changing tires. What do you think about this “older” tire?

Less then 1 1/2 years old, I wouldn’t be worried.

Agreed. I’d be more concerned that all the tires matched (same brand, model, etc.) than being a few years different in age.

this one tire is now 1 year, 7 months old - I need to have the others checked- I prefer less than a year old-when sold as new-

I did check on that -

Mr. Google says the industry standard is that unsold tires 6 years old should not be sold. Did you buy 4 tires or do you still have the mismatched on the front ? If they are 10 years old replace them.

this “new” tire is over 1yr, 6 month old, installed today, info of the other 3 is on the interior, one of those is 3 years old, this has been another learning experience, I trusted the shop to install tires of this year, I did not look at the tires beforehand - I saw the tire online, looked good, did not think I had to check for the year-

You do not have a problem with the new tire. Your problem is with having mixed tires of age and tread depth.

I am quite confused about what the 43rd month of 2023 is.

I corrected my post: 43 rd week - thanks

I will check the tread depth, the car was parked most of the time, so age of tire can be a concern

The tire is manufactured then it is sold to a distributor. Eventually someone installing tires will order them for you and install them after delivery. I think your one year max is a little unrealistic. Remember also that the tires are stored in a warehouse and not subject to sunlight.

in my area I pass 2 tire places where they roll out quite a few of their tires for display
I actually passed 3 today-

This is March of 2025. There’s no way you’re going to find a tire that was manufactured, transported, stored, put into inventory and sold within this year. Things just don’t move that quickly.

There’s nothing wrong with installing a tire made towards the end of 2023.

Within the tire industry, it is generally accepted that “new” means anything within 6 years of production date. There is some logic to this as tires age much more slowly in storage than they do in service.

The company I used to work for tested 3 year old tires and couldn’t find any performance differences.

2023 to 2024 is one year or 12 months, 52-43 is 9 days, Dec 31-9 days is Dec 22… Dec 22 2024 to March 27 2025 is only 13 weeks and 4 days, 13 weeks and 4 days is roughly 3 months and 4 days, add 12 months to 3 months is 15 months, and last time I checked that was only 1 year, 3 months and roughly 4 days, well 5 days if you include leap year, how are you coming up with 1 year and 7 months???

Yes I had to prorate tires out for years…

Now that that is cleared up…
The company that I retired from in Sep 2021, I had worked for, for 17 years and it is the biggest automotive tire manufacture in the world… tire policy was/is:

The distribution centers could NOT sell a tire that was 3 years old, it had to be destroyed, meaning it couldn’t sell them to us, Costco, or to whoever, and at the store level, we could not sell a tire that was 5 years old, yes I put 2" round holes in the sidewall of multiple new never mounted 5+yo tires, our OS would reject any DOT entered that was 5 years old period end of story… Our jobs counted on it… And we could repair a tire (as long as it met the requirements) up to 10 years old, but at 10 years old, we could not even rotate them, or put a full size spare on the ground (vehicle)…

I have sold/installed or been around thousands upon thousands of tires sold and installed on customers vehicles that were 1 to 2 years old with no issues ever…

  • I 'm driving with this tire now-
