Gasket for exhaust joint?

This piece fits in a matching socket. There’s not enough flange for a flat gasket. The pipes are held together with spring bolts.
What’s the best way to seal it up? I don’t think it was leaking when I took it apart and there was no gasket.
It’s a 1989 Subaru justy, not sure if it’s stock.

No gasket, it is supposed to seal on the socket. That said, there are exhaust sealing products in paste form at the auto parts store you can smear on the ball to help seal it. That only works if the joint doesn’t move, which I suspect it does when the engine rocks. Install new springs and fit it up bare.

I might take a wire brush to it to clean it up a bit.
