Fuel smell when cold start

87 Accord Carbureted

Lately when I start the car with a completely cold engine, there is a strong smell in the car, and then it goes away when I put it in gear and go. Is this something to be concerned about?

Well I would get concerned with any gasoline smell in a car if I did not know the source. Try opening the hood and see if you smell anything. Sniff around the car, especially the back area. It would not be unusual for an 87 to have a fuel tank or fuel line leaking and it will only get worse or cause a fire.
