Fuel pump relay

how dose a fuel pump relay work in a 94 ford aspire?

In the 94 Aspire, the fuel pump relay gets its power through the Circuit Openning relay. This supplies power to the contacts and one side of the coil. The Engine Control Module provides the ground to this coil. So, the fuel pump relay is activated by a command from the ECM. The power from the fuel pump relay goes to the fuel pump. The ground to the fuel pump is completed through the Inertia Safety Switch (if the car has experienced a sudden stoppage, the ISS will trip cutting power to the fuel pump until the ISS is reset.)

Hope that helps your understanding.

have power to the relay but fuel pump will not come on. i grounded the relay and can hear the fuel pump and the car started 2 times but now it won’t start but i can still hear the fuel pump.

Suggestion: Turns over, but doesn’t start/stay started is difficult. You’re very likely going to end up spending a few hundred dollars before the car is right again. Spend some of it on tools rather than parts even if you suspect you will never ever use them again. In this case, a fuel pressure gauge compatible with your car will resolve any doubts about the fuel delivery system. You can probably buy one at AutoZone or Sears. You’ll have to do a little internet research about how to connect the gauge to your Aspire to make sure that the gauge you buy will work.

already checked fuel pressure it is good and when i got it started it ran fine till i turned it off.

But when you really need to check the fuel pressure is when the car won’t start. That’s assuming that not starting sometimes is the problem. When the car starts and runs OK, checking the fuel pressure is sort of redundant, no? You already know that the fuel pressure is OK then.

Ehrrr. Let’s start over. What problem are you trying to solve?

car cut off going down the road. car would turn over but not start. turn the key on could not hear the fuel pump and had no fuel pressure crank engine over would not start but got 40 psi fuel pressure also jumped test connector 40 psi. new timming belt 2 months ago checked ok getting spark.checked inertia switch button is pushed in. turn the key on can not hear fuel pump but when i ground the wht/yel wire from the pcm i hear the fuel pump and that is when it started that couple off times but the next time i did it, it would not start.where is the pcm located? thanks

The PCM should be either under the dash or hood areas.

Have you verified that spark is getting to the plugs when this trouble happens? A lot of systems cut the fuel delivery if spark pulses aren’t detected. If you can spray some starter fluid into the intake and make the engine fire then maybe the fuel pressure regulator is the trouble or there is an injector problem.

If Autozone is correct and it and I are on the same page, it might be “Front seating area, driver side, under dash, mounted above kick panel”

Assuming that the PCM is the “Engine Control Computer” and that Autozone is correct, it is “Front seating area, driver side, under dash, mounted above kick panel”

i am getting spark sprayed starter fluid still will not start.
