It seems to me that Ford may have offered a fire extinguisher as an accessory in the forties. Carbon tetrachloride fire extinguishers were useful not only for extinguishing fires, but could be used to spray damp ignition wires to help restart a car that had drowned out. My aunt drowned out the ignition system on her car at one time and a friendly truck driver sprayed the ignition wires and the car restarted. Unfortunately, carbon tetrachloride is not legal for fire extinguishers any more. I had a halogen fire extinguisher which was great because it left no residue. I extinguished a car fire under the hood of another car in a parking lot. Unfortunately halogen fire extinguishers are no longer available because of the environmental damage they might cause.
