Federal Highway Administration busts humorous highway signs

‘Signs, signs, everywhere a sign, blocking up the scenery breaking my mind’
I hate that song.

Feel safer now?

I actually agree that they are out of place and distracting. I don’t pay these people to come up with funny jingles to tell me not to drink or speed or wear my belt etc. if they think it helps which I would question, just say it. Especially when it take two pages to get the message out. Hard to read the whole thing at 70 and still drive. But I just don’t think anyone changes their behavior because of them but I’m open to studies that show otherwise.

Just be straight forward and speak clearly. Bridge out, lane closed, drug check point ahead, water over the road. We don’t pay them to be comedians but to provide information. Pet peeve like give em a brake. We are not all from New Jersey.

I like humor to get a point across.
I still buy Burma Shave😀

I don’t find the humerous signs any more distracting than the serious ones. Either way works for me. I must admit that I’ve been changing signs in my mind for decades.

Is now: Road work ahead. Temporary inconvenience, permanent improvement.

Should be: Road work ahead. Temporary improvement, permanent inconvenience.

Is now: Beware fallen rocks.

Should be: Beware fallen women.
