2010 EQUINOX HAS WHAT I CONSIDER LOUD TICKING IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. 4CYL FWD. HAVE TAKEN BACK TO DEALER TWICE. FIRST TIME I HAD THE CAR ONLY 3 DAYS. SERVICE MGR SAID NOISE WAS NORMAL FOR 4CYL WITH THE NEW DIRECT INJECTION PUMP. AT 3500 MILES I HAD IT AT THE DEALER FOR FREE LOF AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE NOISE AGAIN. THEY STILL SAY THE NOISE IS NORMAL. I AM EMBARRESSED TO HAVE THE CAR IDLING. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS 250000 MILES ON IT. THE SERVICE MGR SAYS THEY HAVE PUT THE PUMP IN A RUBBER SLEEVE SO IT SOUNDS BETTER NOW THAN BEFORE. I ABSOLUTELEY LOVE THE CAR EXECPT FOR THIS NOISE. THEY SAY THE 6 CYL ALSO HAS THE NOISE. I HAVE A NEIGHBOR THAT JUST PURCHASED A NEW FORD EDGE AND YOU BARLEY HEAR IT RUNNING. I KNOW THEY USE A DIFFERENT INJECTION SYSTEM BUT MY COMPLAINT IS THE NOISE PERIOD. THE NOISE CANNOT BE HEARD WHILE YOU ARE IN THE CAR UNLESS YOU ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS. BUT I CAN HERE IT WHEN MY WIFE GETS WITHIN 100 FT OF OUR HOUSE. THE SERVICE MGR SAID IF I COULD LISTEN AT 50 MPH THE I WOULD NOT BE ABLE HEAR THE NOISE. IT’S BEEN 45 YEARS SINCE I HAVE BEEN ON THE HOOD OF A CAR AT 50 MPH, AND AS I RECALL YOU COULD HEAR MUCH ANYWAY. IS GM AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM OR DO THEY EVEN CONSIDER IT A PROBLEM? HOW CAN IT BE MADE QUIETER?
Please turn off the caps lock, it makes the post hard to read.
Drive another 2010 Equinox with a 4 cyl. If it makes the same noise, it’s normal like the dealer said. Just curious, did it make the noise during the test drive? If the noise still bothers you, either turn up the radio or trade it for an Edge.

Make sure you don’t have any loose spark plugs.
Then go to the dealer and listen to other new Eq’s with the same engine.
I have a 2010 LT2 w/2.4L 4 cyl that makes the same noise at idle speed. I don’t hear it when driving. Also heard it on another 2010 'Nox LT, but do not know what engine it had. Look at this way, if it isn’t “normal” and something breaks, it’s under warranty and Chevy’s problem. I’m no expert but I wonder if it has anything to do with either the VVT or the FI metering unit?
