For almost 1 year the check engine light was on. A couple of weeks ago it went out. Now oil is blowing out from the oil dip stick opening. Is there any relationship? Our mechanic says “No”. Engine continues to run fine.
Well? What else did the mechanic have to say about oil blowing out the engine? Did he offer any repairs?

Why in the world would anyone drive a car for a year with the engine light on??? That CEL (check engine light) is just a kid in class waving her hand trying to get you attention because she has the answer. You need to have the codes read. Some places will read them for FREE. Try Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts. Get the exact code not just their translation into English and post it back here. It likely will have a format like P1234.
It “continues to run fine”? With oil blowing out the dipstick tube?
My guess is that there is a relationship. Oil is blowing out the tube because the crankcase is pressurizing. That’s probably happening because the PCV valve is plugged shut. The PCV system allows pressure and gasses in the crankcase to vent into the engine’s intake. Tyhe malfunctioning PCV system may have been the reason for the CEL.
But I’m guessing. There’s nowhere near enough information to say anything diagnostic. If my guess is right, then you’re a lucky person indeed. Ignoring the CEL light for a year could allow a minor problem to destroy your engine.
Thank you, I will NEVER not check the CEL again. Took the truck to Advanced Auto parts. When they pulled the cv valve out, it was original equip. (10 or 11 yrs old and never changed)They put in a $3. part and that probably fixed the oil blowing problem. I also have a big can of degreaser!!! They gave me the readout P-something, I don’t have it handy. Said its Oxygen sensor problems. I will get this taken care of ($75. part). Thank you all for your input. We go to the mechanic in the morning.
