Two days ago, when I released my emergency brake on my 95 Sable, I noticed that the big, bright red emergency brake light inside my dashboard never turned off. I have driven with that light on and got the same pick-up as usual, so the brake is probably still not engaged. The light has turned on before when my brake fluid level is low, but the level is normal.
What could be wrong?
There is a switch that operates the warning light. Normally, when the parking brake is released, the lever, or pedal, contacts the switch and turns the light off. Your parking brake lever or pedal is not doing that, or the switch is faulty.
You will have to crawl down and inspect the parking brake mechanism to locate and adjust, or replace, the switch.
