I have a 99 Dodge Durango that “clunks” when you start form a stop and then let off the gas like when starting out at a stop light and the traffic backs up. The clunk comes from the front and only happens at slow speed and only if you pause on acceleration. If you smoothly accelerate to higher speed no clunk and no clunk pausing at higher speeds. My mechanic checked the front end out and found nothing. ???
FWD or RWD?
If front, the clunk may be from worn motor mounts or worn transmission mounts.
If rear, the clunk may well be a worn driveshaft U-joint.
If it’s a 4x4 (also) check the front driveshaft between the front diff and the transfer case.
check all the drive shafts U joints
