Thought it was a legitimate link I’d see later. No time to read it.
My old neighbor in Henderson Co. N.C. was getting ready to trade in his old Chevy truck, he told me the only thing wrong with it was that the key was rusted into the ignition. He never took it out of the ignition switch in the 10 years he owned it.
That was almost 40 years ago, I imagine things have changed even there………I keep my cars locked these days.
Many years ago (probably in the late '50s) Popular Mechanics (or Mechanix Illustrated?) published a pictorial feature on “how to make driving more convenient”. Their suggestion was to buy a duplicate dash knob, and to cut the ignition key so that it could be fastened into the base of the knob. Then, one could leave his key in the ignition all the time, and “nobody would know” that the key was there, because it was disguised as a dashboard knob.
Obviously, this was in the days before steering column-mounted ignition locks, and it assumed that every car thief would be totally clueless–which is not a safe assumption, IMHO.
My diesel Olds had the flip license plate fuel door so I kept a spare key clipped on the inside. After a while there was so much soot, you’d never notice it. One night I stopped at the lumber yard just before closing and locked my keys inside. Handy to have a key quickly available.
Been doing that for over 40 years, ok no key fobs back then.
What gives you the idea that the perps are in their right mind?
