Dash shift indicator 2002 Dodge Dakota

My 2002 Dodge Dakota 5 speed 3.9 has a shift indicator in the tachometer that lights up when it is time to shift. However, the indicator pops up at around 1800 rpms. Does anyone else think this is too low to be shifting gears? I typically shift around 3000.

My old Ford Tempo use to have this gizmo.I never paid much attention to it because I knew when it was time to shift gear.

That indicator is set to trigger so low to try and make you accelerate more slowly and get better gas mileage. In my old 94 Saturn Sedan I usually shifted around 2000-2500 rpms

I do. I had a car with one of those once. It was an annoyance. Here’s how I would fix it-
