I HAVE A 95 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX WITH 3.1
LITER ENGINE. RECENTLY WHILE DOING ENGINE
SERVICE WORK I FOUND THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
BELT GUIDE LAYING IN BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND
THE FENDER. JUST WONDERING IF THIS PIECE
CAN BE REINSTALLED OR DO I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE PULLEY?
Now that you are the on-scene mechanic, you get to decide.
it’s time to buy a new one. when you find it just laying there it is no longer useful.
what part is this exactly?
the crank pulley, or the tensioner?
IT’S THE CRANK PULLEY, BUT JUST THE OUTER PART OF IT,WHICH I BELIEVE IS THE BELT GUIDE.THE REST OF THE PULLEY IS STILL
ON THE ENGINE AND THE BELT IS STILL ON THE CRANK PULLEY YET TO.
although this used to be one piece; this has a two part construction. it has an inner hub which is bolted to the crank. and it is “sort of” glued to the outer grooved part.
this piece is NOT repairable, or fixable.
you have to buy a new one and replace it.
(or take it to your mechanic to have them do it.)
this one really made me laugh! well done!
