Coincidence?

Is there a brake fuse or relay that interupts the ignition switch function if blown?

The Coincidence Is That The Brake Lights Stopped Working When The Ignition Switch Stopped Working, But Everything Else Electrical Still Works ?

The coincidence is that I completely mashed (and presmably shorted) a wiring harness to a trailer that I was hauling, and immediately I could not shift from park to drive with the vehicle running. I had to turn the ignition switch to acc., put it in neutral, then start the van. Now, I cannot start the van at all (I have a brand new battery). The problem appears to be in the switch as opposed to the starter solenoid or battery.

The other coincidence is that I just had the van fixed at a Ford dealership for an electrical recall, though I do not know what that entailed.
