Chevy passlock anti-theft

I have a 2002 Silverado. I am having problems with it starting. I turn the key to on, and nothing!! A friend told me how to reset or reprogram the key, turn to on 10 minutes 3 times. This does work, but it might be a day before it starts. I don’t have a key with a chip in it, it’s a regular key. Looking for info on bypassing the whole system.

Are you sure it’s the passlock system? You say you “turn the key on and nothing!” If it’s the passlock system, the cluster should come on and the engine should crank, but you will have a flashing security light and no spark. The relearn procedure for the passlock system, by the way, is to turn the key to run, wait ten minutes, and start the engine. There are ways to bypass the passlock system, but in your case, this doesn’t seem to be the problem.

Yes the cluster comes on but the engine does not crank security light on.

Next time it happens, try hitting the starter with a hammer and turn the key again. Security light on steady is normal, flashing indicates a fault with the Passlock system, unless the security light comes on steady with the engine running. This sounds more like a failing starter motor to me.
