what’s the noise I hear when I turn the steering well
Probably gurgling water from your steering well. Now steering wheel is another matter. You are going to have to describe what sound you hear and what you are doing when you hear it.

pretty sure the equinox has elec assist steering.
What year, 2010 and later have electric assist. Describe the sound, a low pitched moan might be from the tie rod ends.

Check to see if the wheel is hitting anything under the car. Sometimes those plastic under-engine shields will come loose.
