the owner manual suggests that a dealer can check the transmission fluid level on a 2000 catera. however, as a do-it-yourselfer with lots of mechanical experience, i’d like to do myself. there is a possible level check plug on the trans fluid pan, but is there another place to check/add fluid?
The level check plug IS the place to check and add fluid. They made it similar to a manual transmission. HOWEVER, the other rules of checking fluid on an automatic still apply. Those rules are, transmission warmed up, engine running, car level. At the dealership, they would do this on a lift. Doing it at home without a lift is not impossible, but definitely difficult.
