First started 3 weeks ago when I sat idling in park in my car for 30 mins and car shut off by itself. Tried to start it and no crank, no clicking, just the normal dashboard lights and about 6 dings that happen when you turn the key once. Came back outside about 15 minutes later and it started several times. Has never shut off again but I have not sat idling in park again after that. If I make 1-3 stops it runs a good chance that it won’t start. Two people tried to jump my car but did not work. I work late so tried to call every 24/7 tow service around me and no one answered, actually thankful because I would’ve wasted the money. I’ve found that if I sit and don’t do anything to use the car (not even open the door) after a few minutes the radio light will shut off then I keep waiting for a sound that sounds like the rest of the system is completely shutting down, then for good measures I give it an extra few minutes because a couple times I’ve heard it make that sound again and then it starts. I have no idea what it is. No lights on my dashboard and no codes on reader (engine light isn’t on anyways). I only wonder if its a part of the security system, fuses or relay? I had a similar problem with a 2003 Olds Alero with the passlock and I had to wait with the key on until the security light stopped flashing and then I could start it but with this 2015 Ford Focus I can’t do the same, I have to leave the car alone for so long and then it will start. Anyone ever have the same problem? I really can’t afford to take it in so I’ll be trying some things, please help with suggestions. I’m going to be getting an oil change today just because I need to and I will also ask the guys there. Thank you in advance!
My guess would be a bad connection at the battery or a low battery. A car will not run if the voltage gets too low. Jumper cables usually go on the clamps and not the actual battery posts. Put a meter on it and check voltage.
Is the key off??
Clean battery terminals as a start. Heat makes things expand/contract. Could affect many electrical connections.
A bad crank sensor won’t prevent the engine from cranking over.
