Car will not charge after dealer complete recall 23533

I took my car into the Ford dealer to have the recall to 23533 completed which is installing a fuse box to my battery section of my hybrid. I got the car back and now it won’t charge where it charged everywhere. I took the car and plugged it in for the last year. Now the dealer is telling me it’s just coincidence that Both charging modules went bad while we had it it had nothing to do with us. I call bull crap.
Anyone else have any ideas what they did like they shorted something which made my charging system fail?

It would be nice to know what kind of car you have and what the recall number is.

I see it’s temporary. Till final fix is in.

Sorry, I thought that information was in my bio… I have a 2019 Ford fusion, titanium hybrid and the recall was number 23533

Thank you
Dwayne

Did you mean BECM rather than Bose.

When did you have the recall work done?
How long after the work was done that the vehicle would not charge?

If it failed to charge immediately after done, and the dealership would not fix it, elevate the problem up the chain to Ford.
“ If you have an unresolved issue with a dealer:

  1. Ask to speak with the appropriate dealer manager (Service, Sales, or Parts). Explain your request to them, and why it was not resolved.
  2. If you need further help, speak, or meet with the Dealer Principal. They own the business and are responsible for its overall operation.
  3. Contact the Customer Relationship Center via Live Chat or by calling 1-800-392-3673 if your inquiry or concern remains unresolved with the dealer, so we can assist you further.”

Your dealer will install a fuse block between the high voltage battery and the Battery Energy Control Module (BECM). That will remove the possibility of an internal high voltage battery failure damaging the BECM, which could lead to a fire in the luggage compartment.

Your dealer will also disable the plug-in charging feature of your vehicle via a software update. If the vehicle is plugged into a high voltage charger the battery will not charge. Your vehicle will continue to operate as a non-plug-in hybrid vehicle. When the final remedy repair is available and completed, the plug-in charging will be functional again.

The dealer disabled the charging for the plug in part,

Ah, I did not find that information when I searched the recall.
Seems the Ford dealership the OP uses did not adequately explain the issue.

Yeas sorry Bose was auto correct for BECM I didn’t notice

recall 23533 again my typo I am pissed and typing to fast my apologies

Looks like @It_s-Me found you the answer, plug-in charging is shut down until they come up with a fix. Your dealer needs to do a better job of explanation, or maybe that person was clueless.

So does that mean that the everyone with one of these bought a Plug in Hybrid that is no linger a Plug in Hybrid?? Well until they decode on a fix or not anyway?

Depends on how many are included in the recall. That’s the case for all that are recalled, it seems.

The OP’s dilemma is mostly the result of very poor communication on the part of the people at the dealership.

OR in spite of the OP having the recall number and access to it they didn’t bother to read it.

Oh wow that is not good! Yeah, the dealer was telling me that when I plugged the car in when I got the car back, I burned out the modules I’m like what the hell! Wait until I call him back with that information that should embarrass him

Thank you very much for following up and finding that

Dwayne

Don’t burn any bridges, you might have to go back for another recall and even an update so you can once again plug yours in again…

Not all dealers have had enough experience to fully understand Hybrid and Electric vehicles . I think calling the Ford number in your manual is the first step .

The recall involved shutting off the charging feature to avoid a fire until they can come up with a fix.

Communication requires a sender and a willing receiver so not clear which failed. Usually a recall notice will spell out what is to be done regardless of what the dealer communicates.

I agree that the OP should let the folks at Ford Corporate know about his experience with that dealership. But, what Bing stated is also something to consider:

Did the OP carefully read the details of the recall notice?

Nope, I did not burn any bridge and would not… I will end up going back there for the fix someday as well as my routine maintenance . The embarrassing part for the SM is he didn’t know because Ford never communicated this recall to his dealership! Which sucks for him, because it made him look foolish as well! I’m sure now that he knows he will communicate it to all his associates.

It pisses me off that Ford does not have a fix for this already, and they’re telling me it could be up to a year away! That’s nobody’s fault, but Ford
So I will deal with that on my own!
Thank you for everyone’s help. Greatly appreciate it.
