Car door lock is not working

Thanks I just don’t know which battery I need my fob doesn’t have any info on it

The owner’s manual shows a CR1616 key battery, open your key and have a look at the old battery.

You are missing the point. Once you get inside, use the interior buttons to test whether the electric actuator is working or not. I’ll bet it is.

A working fob is irrelevant to determining if the actuator is causing your problem. It is most likely the lock cylinder.

Ok I’ll say this, from the inside when I unlock the doors only the passenger sides unlock and same thing goes when I press to lock the doors, only the passenger side doors lock

Well now I really messed up. I opened my key fob to see the exact battery I need then I put everything back and my car don’t start

I changed the batteries in four fobs yesterday. Both the Pontiac and Acura took 2032 batteries. It’s just maintenance. I don’t know what they cost. Maybe $5.

If you are in the car, why do you need the fob to start it? Is it push to start? Did you pull the battery out? Put the old worn out one back in or a new battery? Get the battery upside down? Mess the contacts ups. Didn’t get the fob snapped back together or got the rubber pads off their position?

Well the rubber did kind of come out and so did the buttons but I seem to have gotten them back to how they were originally and the battery is in thr right position. As for the battery specifically, I just opened the fob to make sure which battery I needed then I put the old one back in so I could go and replace it and now the car turns over but don’t start. And no it’s not a push start.

Unrelated. A fob doesn’t affect a car starting if the starter motor works.

I don’t know what to say but all I know is my car was starting just fine and then when I did that to the fob the car doesn’t want to start up now. I mean I guess if I can’t get in contact with my mechanic I’ll just either have it towed or spend the 250 and get a new key fob. I knew I should’ve just kept getting in through my trunk it want even that bad haha

Is a warning light illuminated showing a key, located above the fuel gauge?

I mean when I’m trying to start it up it’s showing the key light flashing yes

Sorry yes I just checked again it is illuminated showing a key yes

You have damaged the transponder inside the key handle.

Car won’t start if the fob is opened wrong and the chip is damaged or falls out! Happened with GF’s fob for her Camry, no spare fob. In her case the fob required a tow to get new fobs and have them programmed.

So I need a new fob then right,?

You need a key. Do you have other keys? In the past you stated that you had keys programmed.

You might try just replacing the fob’s battery with a new one. The fob is probably part of the car’s anti-theft system, and it must be powered up and nearby before the drivetrain computer will allow any sparks to the sparkplugs. The battery’s connection to the fob’s connections was disturbed, enough to prevent full amount of its limited battery power reaching the fob’s electronics. Might not be a problem if the battery was new, b/c a new one has extra power. The advice above to just buy a new fob/key from the dealership is the easiest method I expect.

By way of contrast, old vs new, the only problem I have with my 50 year old truck’s ignition key, it keeps falling out onto the floor when I go over a bump … lol … 50 year old version of remote fob .

You don’t think you have the battery upside down but I think you do. Open the Fob again and watch the video above. Look for the battery position in the video and compare it to your’s. It is not as logical as you might think.

A lot of these FOBs have the battery button (+) side up, not down like a flash light. Some can be case (+), button (-).

I use to have a key fob but it broke then I got 1 new one. So I only have 1 rn. I probably should of got it programmed at a different retailer because it seems like the battery died withing 2 days and no button was working and they said they couldn’t do nothing about it

I’ll check both ways but I’m pretty certain it’s the right way
