At the end of the day (or month, year, or economic cycle) i think the only U S EV only carmakers will be Tesla and Lucid or Rivian.
You’re almost surely right, but the recent steep drop–worldwide–in Tesla sales doesn’t seem to bode well for that company:

While the reliability record for Rivian’s trucks & SUVs puts them in the absolute bottom slot, I think that they are probably on fairly solid financial ground as a result of having already sold more than 20,000 EV delivery trucks to Amazon, with more in the pipeline. And, despite their very poor reliability record, Rivian truck & SUV owners seem to be very satisfied with their vehicles, so I guess that Rivian is treating customers well when their vehicles break down.
As per Consumer Reports…

When a car maker ranks below… let’s say… Rover… that’s not a positive sign.
As to Lucid, their current models appeal only to people with mega-bucks, and unless they can get their promised cheaper models on the market fairly soon, I think that they may have some problems in the near future.

Especially since Rover died in the 1990s…
Now if we are talking Land Rover quality (and, of course, we are!)… they are
I used the generic “Rover” term instead of referring to both Land Rover and Range Rover, but I’m pretty sure you knew that.
Of course I knew that!
I thought it was ironic you used the term Rover considering its dismal quality was a big reason it is no longer with us!
Add Ford, GM, and Stellantis to that list. They have several models already and are bringing more to market.
Agreed, but i was referring to EV only manufacturers.
I think that an appropriate analogy would be the early personal computer industry. There were once a lot of brands of PCs marketed in the US, but as the industry matured, there just wasn’t enough market share for all of them.
I’m sure that this list is incomplete, but if you go back to the '80s & '90s, Radio Shack/Tandy, Leading Edge, Gateway, Sinclair, & Epson were considered to be successful PC companies… and yet, they have now disappeared as PC makers (yes, I know that Epson still makes printers). Even Sony and IBM were prime players, back in the day.
My first PC was made by Hyundai (yes, the same company that manufactures cars and ships), and when it was time to replace it, I bought a Toshiba PC. I don’t think that there are any Hyundai or Toshiba PCs at this point.
One by one, so many of the early PC companies disappeared (or at least stopped making PCs), and I think that the same will be the case with the “pioneers” in the modern EV industry.
