I have had a problem with the automatic door locks on my car, a 2002 Mitsubishi Diamonte. This used to happen only in cold weather, but when the cold weather let up this past spring the problem didn’t resolve. When I put the key in at the 12 o’clock position, I then turn it to the 2 o’clock position to unlock the door. I then have to turn it back to the 12 o’clock position to remove the key. However, there are times when I put the key back to the 12 o’clock position and the door will relock. The door is not supposed to relock until the key is turned to the 10 o’clock position, but it does it at 12 instead. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Any ideas is appreciated.
The switch on the end of the door lock cylinder is failing, remove the door panel and have a look, it will probably need to be replaced. This is also why the alarm system doesn’t disarm.
