After driving at speeds 40 or higher I stopped briefly, kept the engine running and tried to accelerate but the car wouldn’t allow me to drive past 20 MPH. Once the engine was shut off for awhile it acted normal. It happened 3 times but Hyundai mechanics couldn’t duplicate it or find a reason for it to happen. I’m now afraid to use it on the highway where I could be seriously hurt.
About the only thing I can recommend at this time is, next time it happens, DON’T shut the car off (hint, make sure you keep gas in it), drive it to the dealership, maybe call them to let them know it happened again and you are on the way, and don’t shut the vehicle off once there no matter what they say until they drive it… Best to let them know in advance this is what you will do next time it happens… Something else you can do is to buy a scanner to look for codes when this happens…
Also EVERYTIME you take it to the dealer, make sure you get everything in writing incase this becomes a Leman Law issue…
You might also need to get Hyundai of America corp office involved, sometimes the dealer needs a little kick in the pants from corp to get them motivated to find the issue…
Be nice but firm, tell them how much you like the car and how you plan on buying more later on, you catch more Bees with honey…
Sorry you are having this issue and best of luck…
